Personal Statement

Tracey Donnelly Franklin

My name is Tracey Donnelly Franklin and I am an artist with studio/galleries in both The Chair Factory in The Village of Waterford, VA, and Shepherdstown, WV. As a painter/sculptor, my work has been featured in galleries and exhibitions in New York City; St. Louis, MO; Middleburg, VA and Shepherdstown, WV. My work is inspired by animals, nature and other artists such as Paul Gauguin, James Audubon, Ancient Chinoiserie, Persian Art and ancient  wallpapers and films. I use imagery found on fabric borrowed from collections such as The National Trust and often combine several bright colors and bold shapes adapting the work of these ideas and artists into a new and unique story and composition. I am passionate about exploring the relationship between nature and art, and reworking history. As a museum professional, I have worked for The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and I am currently **a registered copyist at  the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. I have a Fine Arts Degree from VCU and a Masters Degree in Creative Writing from George Mason University. I attended The Corcoran College of Art and Design. My sculptures and paintings are held in private collections.
